How to Choose a Pearl Necklace

A straightforward, classic pearl necklace is not something you're likely to find at Completedworks, which can make choosing the right pearl necklace feel a little less straightforward, so we've put together a few things to consider when shopping for one.

Understanding Pearl Varieties

As a natural material, no two pearls are exactly alike. They will always vary slightly in size, shape, and surface. Freshwater pearls tend to be more uniform, with a smooth finish, and are available in a range of sizes and shapes, including round and teardrop. Baroque pearls, by contrast, have organic, irregular forms and are typically larger, often with elongated or teardrop silhouettes. In some designs, we also use shell pearls, high-quality, man-made pearls that offer consistency in size and shape. These are particularly suited to pieces that require larger pearls or perfect uniformity, which is much more difficult to achieve with natural pearls.

Finding the Right Length

Pearl necklaces will vary in length. For greater versatility, look for styles with an adjustable chain clasp, allowing you to wear the necklace at different lengths. Be sure to check the product description for the chain measurements, and, if possible, measure against your own neckline to find the length that suits you best.

Styling Beyond the Classic

If you're looking for something less traditional, consider a pearl necklace that combines different materials. Pairings such as pearls with cubic zirconia or coloured resin create a more contemporary feel, while designs featuring pearls arranged into bows, flowers, or other sculptural forms offer a playful and distinctive style.
